Weekend Campfires in Bend

This past Friday, B and I headed east with our fellow run crew members for a weekend filled with tent-pitching, campfires, backcountry runs and a s'more or two. I went camping for the first time since I was a child, and believe it or not, I enjoyed it!

On Friday, we cruised from work on a 3-hour trek to Tumalo State Park. After a few scenic pit stops along the way, we arrived to our campground and immediately set off to build our tent and start a fire in anticipation of our friend's arrivals, and the hungry stomachs they were bringing with them. Even though we were complete amateurs, we managed to pitch our tent and wrangle up a feast fit for any happy camper. Before hitting the hay, we roasted marshmallows with our fellow Stumprunners, and gazed at the freckled night sky. You forget how magnificent the heavens are when you live in a bright city that drowns out the plentitude of planets and stars.
