Jet Set: Max Mara

Le sigh, the last hurrah of Fashion Week ladies.

Max Mara launched an American preview of their Atelier label in New York yesterday, and I was lucky to snag an invite the presentation. The intimate gathering featured local shop patrons and Laura Lusuardi, the head designer, piecing together each item and showcasing the house's intricate craftsmanship. Even Anna Dello Russo showed up to sneak a peak at the family-run fashion house's latest and greatest.

The Fall/Winter collection is based on Elizabeth Taylor's 1963 film, The V.I.P.s, which documents a group of jetsetters awaiting their New York-bound flight in a London terminal. This particular collection focused primarily on the coat as a wardrobe staple. Each piece is undoubtedly glamorous and features luxurious textiles from cashmere and mink to melton and camel-hair - all fit for a high society traveler.  You can't help but envision a 1960's starlet.

While most of the pieces are way out of my budget fashionista price range, I couldn't help but fall in love with the perfectly tailored coats, and clean cut accessories. Some notable pieces I had my eye on were the embellished bijoux collars, cashmere headbands and pony hair loafers.
