Summer Starters

last weekend, Stephen and I were really in the mood for simple hors d'œvres to enjoy with a bottle of Chardonnay he brought home. To me, nothing says summer like artichokes and fried seafood! I snagged an awesome deal on soft shell crabs at the market, and decided they'd go perfectly with the artichokes that were begging to be used in my fridge.

Steamed Artichokes

  • 2 Large Artichokes, cleaned
  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp. Ground Sage
  1. Clean and remove stems from artichokes
  2. In a large pot fitted with a steamer rack, pour just enough water to skim the bottom of the steamer rack.
  3. Place washed artichokes upright on steamer rack, bring water to a boil and cover.
  4. Steam for approximately 45 minutes, or until artichokes are tender.
  5. Allow artichokes to cook for about 10 minutes.
  6. While artichokes are cooling, melt butter in a small dish, add sage and stir.
  7. Dip leaves in butter and enjoy!
  8. You can always save your artichoke hearts and toss them in a salad or pasta...
