Halloween is this weekend, and that means Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner... Have you been having a hard of time as I have staying on track with eating right with the candy jar filled with tricks and treats?
I feel like everytime I walk past the candy jar, I justify my craving by saying "it's only once a year!" - but let's behonest, that excuse lasts all the way until January 2nd, when I start to realize my buttons seams are a being pulled a bit too taught. One of my favorite treats is a Reese's - peanut butter has always been a weakness of mine - cover it in chocolate and I'm yours!
One way I've found that helps me sidestep my holiday candy binge is filling myself up on less gilty snacks so that I'm too full to desire more than one little piece. My favorite snack of the moment is rice cakes with peanut butter and raisins, an adult ants on a log! Not only does it fix my peanut butter craving, but it also provides great energy around that 3pm slump to get me through the rest of the day and energetic for my workout later on. It gives me protein, fiber and healthful energetic carbs rather than sugar on top of heaping spoonful of sugar that results in an imminent blood sugar crash around 5PM... but don't be too disciplined, allow yourself at most one piece a day this week, it is afterall, Halloween! :-)
